• DOPL is forever looking for ways to create a more efficient use of taxpayer dollars. In 2021, mailing postcard renewal reminders cost taxpayers $88,000.
• Approximately 98% of all DOPL licensees already renew online. This makes postcard renewal reminders unnecessarily expensive and inefficient.  
• Emailed renewal reminders are already so successful that many licensees renew even before DOPL mails off the postcards. Additionally, a substantial number of postcards are undeliverable due to incorrect address or other issues.
• Licensees tell us that online renewals are much easier. They require less steps, and are much more efficient. Also, because DOPL sends official licenses via email, licensees can receive their renewed license in as little as 24 hours after DOPL approval.
• The State of Utah is steadily moving toward a greener platform, which includes moving to paperless processes.
• Technological advancements now allow much more efficient reminders than getting a postcard.  For example, since most licenses expire the same day every 2 years, many DOPL licensees set a calendar event, phone alarm, or digital reminder to repeat every other year.

You can look up your license number using DOPL’s free online Verify a License Tool. On the dopl.utah.gov home page, click on “Verify a License”. On this page, type your own name in the search bar and then click “Search”. Select your name from the list by clicking on your name or license number. The resulting page will have your professional license information, including your name, profession, license number, license expiration date, etc.

You’re welcome to use any email address you have regular access to. DOPL recommends a personal email address as you will always have access to this account regardless of employment status.

Not at this time. DOPL’s current system cannot send the renewal reminder to more than one email address per licensee.

Update your email settings now to ensure renewal reminders don’t end up in a spam or junk folder. Go into your email settings and allow email correspondence from [email protected]. This process may take you a few minutes, but will only need to be done once to ensure you receive emails from DOPL.

If you are not sure how to do this, use a search engine and type in “How to whitelist an email in [insert the name of your email provider here],” then follow those steps.

Yes! The majority of DOPL’s professional licenses expire the same day every 2 years. You can set a calendar event, phone alarm, or digital reminder to repeat every other year. We recommend setting this reminder at least 30-60 days prior to your license’s expiration date to allow yourself time to submit a renewal application.
