NEW REPORTING REQUIREMENT | Healthcare Providers with a Third-Party Medical Records Service

On July 1, 2023, HB 312 was enacted which requires all healthcare providers who utilize the services of a third-party medical records company to report this information to the Division of Professional Licensing. PubMed Full-Text Article Delivery

The Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah is spearheading an initiative to enable Utah-licensed physicians to retrieve full-text articles from PubMed without encountering a publisher paywall. This 3-year pilot program will launch in January 2024.  More information, including how to register for an account and order articles, is available here.


New Training Requirement for DEA-registered practitioners

  • The Drug Enforcement Agency | Diversion Unit is now requiring a one-time 8-hour Medication Assisted Treatment Training for all DEA-registered practitioners. For more information, refer to this document: MATE Training Letter

Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances

Beginning January 1, 2022, Utah Code Annotated 58-37-22 requires that most* prescriptions issued for a controlled substance be transmitted electronically as an electronic prescription; however, you may apply for a limited extension by submitting the form linked below.
