Once we receive a completed application (i.e., all required documents and fees) our typical processing time is 7-10 business days.
The best method is to send your application by certified mail, return receipt requested or send it though a delivery service that tracks items delivered by them. Please do not call in to check on the application's status until after 4-6 weeks have passed since DOPL received it. If after 4-6 weeks you have not received a license or been contacted by DOPL to furnish additional information, you can inquire as to the status of the application. NOTE: Always make of copy of anything you send so you have it to refer to should a question arise. Send the application to DOPL, PO Box 146741, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-6741.
Yes, your application will only be held in an incomplete status for 30 days. If you will not have all items submitted to DOPL within 30 days, your application will be denied and you will be required to submit new application, fees and all supporting documents.
To obtain a verification by mail, send in a written request or use this License Verification Request form and the $20 processing fee to Division of Occupational & Professional Licensing, 160 East 300 South, PO Box 146741, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-6741. Mailed verifications are a manual process and can take 10-15 business days once the request is received.
The fastest method is to use our online Licensee Lookup & Verification System . Once you find the license you would like to verify, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Obtain a License Verification" button. You will be prompted to enter the email address of where you would like the verification sent. You can enter as many emails as needed. There is a $5.00 fee for each email address you enter. Verifications that are sent directly from our website are considered primary source verification. However, check with the place requesting the verification to make sure that this will be acceptable.
Your National certification from BOC must be current and in good standing.
Renewal information is disseminated to each licensee at the licensee's last known address, as provided to DOPL, approximately two months prior to the expiration date shown on the license. Once you have been notified by DOPL you can renew your license. In the side menu
All licenses in each profession expire as a group on May 31 of odd years. Therefore, the length of a licensee's first renewal cycle depends on how far into the current renewal cycle initial licensure was obtained. Licensees that were licensed during the last 12 months of a renewal cycle shall be licensed for a full renewal cycle plus the period of time remaining until the impending renewal date. Each renewal cycle thereafter is for a full two years. Each licensee is responsible to renew licensure prior to the expiration date shown on the current license. Renewal information is disseminated to each licensee at the licensee's last known address, as provided to DOPL, approximately two months prior to the expiration date shown on the license.
Enclose with the application complete information with respect to all circumstances and the final result for EACH and EVERY incident:
- Personal account of the incident
- Police report(s)-You will need to contact the police department that responded to the incident
- Court record(s)-in the local jurisdiction where the incident took place
- Probation/Parole officer report(s)
If you are unable to obtain any of the records required above, you must submit documentation on official letterhead from the police department and/or court indicating that the information is no longer available.
