The following requirements must be met:

  • Official Transcripts showing the completion of a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, Counselor Education and Supervision from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs

OR

  • Official Transcripts showing the completion of a Master’s or Doctorate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or an equivalent field from a program affiliated with an Institution that has accreditation that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation that includes a total of 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits of counseling education.
  • At least three semester credit hours or four quarter credit hours of graduate level courses in the following subjects:
    • Mental Status Examination, the appraisal of diagnostic and statistical manual maladaptive, and psychopathological behavior
    • Professional and counseling ethics
    • A practicum or internship that includes at least 700 documented hours of supervised clinical mental health counselor training of which at least 240 hours consist of providing clinical therapy directly to clients under the direction of an educational Institution.

NOTE: The Division may request a passing score of the NCE examination for non-CACREP accredited programs. This will be determined upon review of your education. The official scores must be sent to us directly from NBCC.
